Joe
Roff: A Better Biography
Tikkun
Olam Records was founded on March 1, 2003 by
current President and
CEO, Joe Roff. Joe developed a passion for music
while in grade school. Growing up in Long Island,
New York, Joe attended Brandeis, a Solomon
Schecter Day School starting at the age of four.
At the Brandeis School, Joe spent several hours a
day learning the Hebrew language and studying
Jewish
history. By fifth grade, Joe was singing and
performing solos as part of the
schools traveling choir while taking an active
role in school plays. After
having lived on Long Island for thirteen years and
performing every opportunity he had, Joe left New
York in 1997 and moved to Minneapolis,
Minnesota. Shortly after moving to Minneapolis,
Joe had the honor of
introducing the Minnesota Timberwolves
professional basketball team in front
of a sold out crowd. It was at this point in Joe's
life when he decided to
become active in public speaking. In highschool,
Joe was very active in public speaking extra
curricular activities such as speech and debate.
Joe
used his public speaking skills and further
developed them as a leader in
many youth groups including The United Synagogue
Youth, The B'nai B'rith Youth Organization, and
The Leland-Johnson Common Vision Program which
brought together African American and Jewish
youth. In the Fall of 2001, Joe spent a semester
abroad in Israel as part of the Alexander Muss
Highschool
In Israel program. Joe came back to Minneapolis
after having the greatest
experience of his life in December of 2001. It was
evident at the time to Joe and everyone around him
that he had been greatly impacted by this
amazing experience and was going to take his
knowledge and love for Jewish
culture and apply it to his passion in music. Joe
was eager to create Jewish
music that Jews around the world could relate to,
music with a mainstream
sound yet inherent Jewish pride. At this time Joe
began writing and
recording his first album "A Better
Place" which was released by Joe Roff under
his record label Tikkun Olam Records in August of
2003.
Nearly three years later, Joe Roff has
surely turned his dream of becoming
a Jewish rockstar into a reality after three
successful releases and world tours performing for
tens of thousands of people and gaining popularity
amongst Jewish teens around the world. Joe Roff is
currently keeping really
buisy in the Jewish music world working out of Los
Angeles. He is currently
working on a fourth CD release and world tour as
well as signing new artists
to Tikkun Olam Records so that other artists
around the world have the same
opportunity to get their musical dreams answered.
